Home-cooked food doesn't necessarily mean home-prepared food. There are restaurants and services that offer either pre-assembled, but uncooked, food options or the ability to assemble those dinners oneself. Both options are faster than traditional home cooking but still allow the customer to make the food in his or her own kitchen when needed.
Take-and-bake restaurants offer dinner options that are assembled by the restaurant staff but cooked by the customer at home. Personal chefs also prepare meals for their customers and freeze or refrigerate the uncooked dinners for later use.
A meal-preparation store allows the customer to prepare dinners for himself, selected from a monthly menu that uses the ingredients and materials provided by the store. The advantage to these stores is that the customer can do some customization. Some ingredients can be skipped or minimized. Seasoning can be controlled. Some of these stores also have to-go services that allow customers to pre-order the dishes they want, with some customization, and pick them up at scheduled times instead of preparing the food themselves. This is a quicker way to get the same product and as such, it costs a little more.
